About This Tour

This four-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari takes in the highlights of Kigali and the Virunga volcanoes. Drive north to Musanze to visit the Dian Fossey Museum, then trek the misty forested slopes of Volcanoes National Park in search of mountain gorillas, with an optional visit to Ibyiwacu Cultural Village. The journey ends with a return to Kigali. Accommodation is offered at luxury or mid-luxury lodges.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival and Transfer

Meet and greet your guide at Kigali International Airport on arrival, with an introduction and briefing on the country and trip details, then transfer to the hotel for rest and relaxation. Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel (luxury) or Mille Coline Hotel (mid-luxury).

Day 2

Transfer from Kigali to Musanze and Dian Fossey Museum

After breakfast, meet your company representative and guide and drive north to the Musanze side, approx. three hours. On arrival in Musanze town, check in at the hotel for lunch. Later visit the gorilla museum for insight into the gorilla conservation success story, mountain gorilla protection and their interaction with local people. Drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Amarembo Gorilla Lodge (luxury) or Ingagi Park View Lodge (mid-luxury).

Day 3

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes and Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing and allocation of gorilla trekking groups. Head into the cold, misty forested slopes of Volcanoes National Park for the gorilla trek, which can take 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. On finding them, spend one hour watching and photographing them before exiting the forest. Meet your driver-guide and transfer back to the lodge, with an optional cultural experience at Ibyiwacu Cultural Village. Overnight at Amarembo Gorilla Lodge (luxury) or Ingagi Park View Lodge (mid-luxury).

Day 4

Morning Breakfast, Check Out and Transfer to Kigali

Wake up to breakfast, check out of the hotel and enjoy the drive back to Kigali. Have lunch there and relax in the afternoon while awaiting drop-off.
