This short safari packs a great deal into a few days. Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kigali International Airport

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your guide who transfers you to Kigali Serena Hotel, approx. 30 minutes from the airport. Overnight at Mille Coline Hotel or The Nest, Kigali, meal plan bed and breakfast.

Day 2

Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Volcanoes National Park and Gorilla Guardians

Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre this morning, then journey north to Volcanoes National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Settle into the lodge and later head out to meet the gorilla guardians, a community of reformed poachers; the visit contributes to the livelihood of the locals and sustainable tourism. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Classic Lodge Musanze, meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3

A Thrilling Experience with the Endangered Mountain Gorillas

The highlight of the tour. At 07:00, gather at the headquarters for a briefing with your small group, after which your ranger leads you through the tropical rainforest in search of your gorilla family. Stay with them for one hour, observing their behaviour in their natural habitat. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Classic Lodge Musanze, meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4

Hike to Dian Fossey Tomb

Dian Fossey was one of the greatest primatologists the Virunga volcanoes has had, dedicating her life to the protection and conservation of the endangered mountain gorillas; the world came to know about mountain gorillas through her work, and without her effort they may have gone extinct or their numbers remained low. The hike to Fossey's tomb takes approx. 3 hours. Learn about her work while contributing to what she started. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Classic Lodge Musanze, meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 5

Golden Monkey Tracking and Evening Flight Home

Return to the Virunga mountain ranges for another adventure, tracking the golden monkeys. The search for the rare primates endemic to this region takes between 2 and 4 hours, and once found, time is allowed in the presence of these gorgeous primates to observe them and learn about their behaviour. Afterwards, drive to Kigali and transfer to the airport in time for the evening flight home.
